Iranian Airways

“Iranian Airways” was first established in May 1944 and commenced its first passenger flight right after the World War II from Tehran to holy city of Mashhad. Within a period of 17 years (1945-1962) this airline developed into a major domestic Route with a few international flights per week. In 1954 another private airline as “Pars Airways” was established. Initially “Pars Airways” only undertook freight services to Europe. The geographical situation of Iran, expanding its spacious levels, relative remoteness of crowded areas from each other, lack of means of transportations either railways or roads, the need to initiate safe and fast connections to survey and governmental organizations, and the last but not the least, lack of an ordered equipment with high capacity to revive mutual aviation rights with other countries and also securing more welfare and comfort for Iranians, provided the conditions for the board of ministers to ratify a proposal suggested by road minister to establish a national Airline corporate on February 10th, 1961.

Covering the domestic aviation transportation needs accompanied by observing the safety principles and forming transportation services with neighboring and far-fetched countries, and also considering simultaneous communal contracts on commercial grounds and interests of the country were among the reasons to establish IranAir. IranAir provides different and various services for the passengers. In this part the comprehensive and complete information about the facilities and the way of using them will provide tranquility and comfort for you and will guide you in planning a successful trip. Some general points have been collected about transportation of cargo and its conditions and complete information about export and import of cargo are presented in this part.

Cosmic Air

Cosmic Air started its operations from 1997, as a domestic airline based in Katmandu, Nepal. It initially operated two MI 17 Helicopters, later upgraded in 1998-99 to Dornier 228 aircraft and further in 2000-01 to two SAAB 340 aircraft. It was then quite a feat as Cosmic Air was the first airline to introduce second-generation turbo prop aircraft with pressurized cabin for domestic flights. In October 2004 the first Fokker 100 Jet Aircraft was added to the fleet. Cosmic Air has revolutionized the domestic operations by introducing jet aircraft since November 2004 on its trunk routes, which were previously operated by turbo prop aircraft for the last 35 years.

Cosmic Air then expanded in a phenomenal fashion by operating regional flights to India and Bangladesh with its twice-daily flights to Delhi and five weekly flights to Dhaka. It is the first private Nepalese airline to operate International flights. Their Fokker aircraft all have a single class configuration with 105 leather-bound seats and boast a seat pitch of over 32 inch, thus ensuring generous legroom on any given sector. With the cultural and historical relations prevailing between India and Nepal, a significant number of Indian tourists (up to 40 percent of the tourist arrivals) visit Nepal every year for various reasons, whether it be business, shopping, casino or even to escape the heat. Besides Delhi, with its extensive network of destinations offered, has become an important transit point for travel into and out of Nepal.

Bonanza Air Services

Bonanza Air Services (BAS) was formed in early in 1945 by Edmund Converse, a former lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy; Charlie Keene, once an operator of a small charter operation in Santa Paula, California; and June Simon, daughter of “Pop” Simon the former secretary-director of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. BAS located its home base at the Sky Haven Airfield, now known as the North Las Vegas Air Terminal, and began operating with just one single-engine, four-seat Cessna. The company offered charter flights to several small Nevada towns but needed a place to promote its product. The trio struck a deal with the El Rancho Vegas Hotel and Casino to set up a ticket counter in the lobby.

Late in 1945 the trio set in motion a plan to expand the business, changing its name from Bonanza Air Services to Bonanza Air Lines (BAL) and incorporating the company. The home base was moved to Alamo Field, now known as McCarran International Airport, in early 1946. As the operation grew, additional aircraft were acquired including two single-engine Piper Cubs and three military surplus twin-engine Cessna T-50 Bobcats for the charter services. In addition, a Stearman biplane was acquired for the new flight school division. BAL’s new routes and services required the addition of still more aircraft and personnel. McCarran Field, formerly Alamo Field, did not have enough hanger space to accommodate the newly acquired fleet, so Bonanza purchased a surplus military hanger at Reno, then dismantled and transported it to McCarran Field.

Yemen Airways

The history of Yemen Airways goes back to the year 1949 when the Yemen government purchased two DC3 Dakotas. These planes were used to transport government officials, mail and, occasionally, businessmen between the major cities of Yemen. On 4 August 1961 the Yemen Airways Company was formed and ownership of the two Dakotas was transferred to the new Company. One year later, Yemen Airways was constituted as a shareholding company to serve the domestic cities of Taiz, Sanaa and Hodeidah and the regional destinations of Djibouti and Asmara. By 1965 Yemen Airways had bought four more Dakotas and had added the domestic destinations of Al Baida, Abs, Al Jawf, Marib and Kamaran.

In 1967 Yemen Airways reached an agreement of cooperation with United Arab Airlines (UAA, now Egypt Air), and two more DC6 aircraft were added to the fleet and a direct flight introduced between Sanaa and Cairo. By the end of 1979 Yemenia had taken delivery of four brand new B727-200s and in 1980 two DH7s. Since then Yemenia flights cover around 23 destinations within three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe, with a good reputation in service and safety. To fulfil its obligation for air service and to cover the external and internal demand, Yemenia has added two jets, A330-200s, to its fleet, and is planning for five more A320s or six B737-700s.
