Established in 2001 and 2004 respectively, Hong Kong Airlines Limited and Hong Kong Express Airways Limited are both commercial airlines based in Hong Kong. With a common shareholder, the two sister airlines provide services with new Boeing 737-800 aircraft between Hong Kong and over 30 cities in Asia. To maximize resources allocation and operation efficiency, some functions of the two sister airlines are combined and under the same management team. The consolidated functions include Sales, Marketing, Administration, Check-in Services and Ground Handling. Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Express Airways have employed a fleet of all-new Boeing 737-800 aircraft, of which the average service time is one year. The B737-800s, being one of the most popular commercial jet models, feature the highest safety rating in its class along with stable flying and spacious seating. Configured into two classes, the Business Class cabin accommodates 8 passengers in a 2-2 seat design while the Economy Class cabin caters for 156 passengers in a 3-3 setting. Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Express Airways are progressively expanding the fleet with the acquisition of new aircraft of various models. As of April 2008, the fleet comprises 13 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and is expecting to reach over 20 in the near future.
